AboutPhil Harrison

A drafting table
in the Cariboo.

Harrison Design is a custom building designer based in Williams Lake, B.C. — drawing log and timber-framed homes for owners and builders across the province.

We've specialised in log and timber for fifteen years, working closely with builders in the log and timber industry, with experience in residential design throughout British Columbia and the United States.

The work is plain: we design, engineer and direct the building of traditional, log and timber-frame homes, cottages and commercial buildings — and we stay with a set until it's standing.

Our style01

Honest structure,
drawn for the place it sits.

We draw homes that wear their structure — exposed logs and timbers, generous spans, roofs that suit the snow and the view. Nothing fussy, nothing that fights the wood.

Every set is build-ready. Plans, sections, connections and settlement details are resolved on paper so the crew isn't guessing on site.

How we work02
01 — Design

Drawn with you

Sketches and plans worked through together until the home is right on paper.

02 — Engineer

Resolved for permit

Structure, spans and connections coordinated and stamped — a build-ready set.

03 — Direct

Carried to site

Drawings followed through on site, supporting the builder to the last detail.

Common questions03
Q1

Are you architects?

No — we're building designers. We draw build-ready permit sets for homes and small commercial buildings, and work alongside builders and engineers to get them stamped and on site.

Q2

Do you work outside Williams Lake?

Yes. We've drawn homes throughout British Columbia and into the United States. Most of the work happens by drawing, phone and email, so distance is rarely an issue.

Q3

Log, timber-frame or post-and-beam?

Each has its place — full log for the classic look, timber-frame for exposed joinery, post-and-beam for open spans with conventional walls. We'll talk it through against your site and budget.

Q4

What do you need to get started?

A rough idea of the home, the site and the budget. From there we sketch, then move into a full permit set once the plan feels right.
